The largest job board in Canada is run by the federal government and its services are free. Employers can post jobs at the Canada Job Bank.

Alberta Employment, Immigration & Industry organizes very successful job fairs throughout central Alberta offering employers a chance to meet with potential employees. See Alberta Employment, Immigration, and Industry for a listing of upcoming job fairs.

Alberta Employment, Immigration & Industry in Red Deer also offers a service called "Employer's Corner" to help match employers with employees and familiarize AEII staff with the types of jobs available in central Alberta companies.

Both Red Deer College and Olds College offer free services so that employers can post job openings targeted at students. Olds College uses workopolis to post student employment opportunities.

Employers can also post job openings at Hire A Student (Alberta).

Finding Aboriginal Workers


 Edmonton Workforce Connection Best Practices Toolkit this toolkit has been prepared to help employers think through how they can work with Aboriginal employees so the working experience is mutually beneficial. To collect best practices, interviews were conducted with service providers and organizations that have successfully recruited and retained Aboriginal employees. This document is intended to dispel some myths, to inspire new thinking and to provide access to resources to support your own success.

The Aboriginal Human Resource Development Council of Canada has the Aboriginal Inclusion Network to help employers reach aboriginal talent (job matching).

Aboriginal Workforce Participation Initiative - Employer Toolkit is a national initiative designed to help employers recruit, retain and promote Aboriginal employees. The Alberta AWPI Employer Toolkit has been designed to help employers increase their awareness and understanding of issues related to Aboriginal employment and find resources to help them employ Aboriginal peoples.

Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business - Western Region is a national, non-profit, non-government, charitable organization that is dedicated to promoting the full participation of Aboriginal communities in the Canadian economy. The mission is to connect Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people and companies with the opportunities they require to achieve personal and business success. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce has endorsed CCAB as the vehicle of choice for companies who want to do business with the emerging market of Aboriginal customers, suppliers, employees and partners. CCAB operates a CEO-level networking group, the Progressive Aboriginal Relations program, the Foundation for the Advancement of Aboriginal Youth, and the aboriginalbiz.com website a job board listing for aboriginal employment. 

First Nations Employment Training Centre is operated by Human Resources Development Canada and allows employers to post jobs, search resumes and review job applicants.

Recruiting Persons with Disabilities

NEADS Online Work System (NOWS) - The National Education Association of Disabled Students has developed a web site where employers can post employment and internship opportunities for disabled graduates. 


WORKink is a career development and employment portal for disabled Canadians. The employer's section, Divers.I.T.ink, allows access to qualified job seekers from across Canada. There are also resources and tools to help establish an inclusive workplace. WORKink Alberta is hosted by EmployAbilities and is sponsored by the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work, the Community Futures Network Society of Alberta (CFNSA) and Alberta Employment, Immigration & Industry. Employers can hold job interviews, orientations and access a disability specialist online.

Finding Foreign Workers


There are two federal departments involved in the process of approving foreign workers to come to Canada - Citizenship and Immigration Canada wCitizenship and Immigration Canada and Service Canada. In Alberta, Alberta Employment, Immigration & Industry assists businesses in recruiting foreign workers.

The Central Alberta Economic Partnership has prepared this guide to help employers understand the process for hiring foreign workers. It lists the required steps to take when hiring a foreign worker and provides useful links to websites containing contact information and resources.

Euromission - is an immigration initiative that targets key countries including Germany and England. In 2006, it included Job Fairs and Emigrate 2006 in the UK. A "Foreign Worker Readiness" workshop provided information  to employers interested in attracting foreign workers. This is an initiative of Alberta Employment, Immigration & Industry. Business Immigration Program/Alberta Economic Immigration Program - These programs are targeted at people who would like to invest in or start businesses in Canada. This program enables applicants to obtain permanent resident status in Canada. There are three classes of business immigrants: investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed persons. These programs are operated jointly by the Government of Alberta and Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Click on the links below for more information:

Skilled Workers Program - Through this program, foreign workers can apply for permanent residency to work in Canada, but are assessed on 6 selection factors. Workers must ensure their credentials will be accepted in Canada through the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials or through the International Qualifications Assessment Service.


Temporary Foreign Worker Program - This program was designed to fill labour shortages or bring new skills or knowledge into the labour force. An HRSDC labour market opinion is required, except for a few specific employment sectors.It is offered through the Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Human Resources Skills Development Canada.

Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program Under the Foreign Worker Program, HRSDC and CIC in cooperation with agriculture producers and a number of foreign countries including Mexico and several Commonwealth Caribbean countries came to an agreement which allows the organized entry of foreign workers to work in agricultural labourer occupations in Canada for up to eight months. Alberta Provincial Nominee Program - This program provides support for companies that need to access skilled workers from other countries when they cannot fill the positions with Canadian workers. The PN Program expedites the immigration process for skilled workers, in occupations designated as critical to the Alberta economy. Workers with the appropriate education, training and experience, and valid job offers from approved Alberta employers, will be considered for nomination under the Alberta PN Program and may obtain permanent residency. This program is administered by the Government of Alberta in conjunction with Citizenship and Immigration Canada.


German-Canadian Young Workers Exchange Programme (YWEP) - This program offers employers the ability to more easily hire well-qualified German job candidates for up to one year. This program is open to young professionals and university graduates aged 18-35 who have either gained a professional qualification or have graduated from university. Apprenticeship and Industry Training - Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training provides high quality support and assessment services to new Albertans and foreign workers. Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training is responsible for ensuring that the foreign credentials of skilled trades people are acceptable in Alberta. Look for a document called "Information for Temporary Foreign Workers" under the section called Certification for Work Experience.


Settlement Services

There are several organizations in central Alberta that assist new immigrants and foreign workers to settle into living and working in the area.
