Give your students the opportunity to explore their career options at the 2009 Central Alberta Trades Expo. This year's expo will feature multiple interactive displays that will give students the opportunity to experience as many as 50 of Alberta's registered trades and designated occupations first hand.
Skilled trades people are in high demand across Alberta and throughout Canada. The Conference Board of Canada estimates a shortage of trades workers and related occupations over the next 20 years across the country as current average age of a tradesperson is over 50 years of age. In addition the trades offer excellent pay, and workers learn skills and gain the knowledge needed to advance their careers into other areas including; instructor, contractor, entrepreneur, manager, salesperson or inspector.
Experienced trades people will be on hand to demonstrate their skills, talk about their work, answer questions, and give students the chance to try their hand at some of the required skills.
The Trades Expo is also well-timed to allow students to enroll in the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) for the coming year or make summer employment contacts.
The Central Alberta Trades Expo is funded through and organized by central Alberta employers, Alberta Apprenticeship & Industry Training; Alberta Employment & Immigration; the Government of Canada; CAREERS: The Next Generation; Central Alberta Career Prep; and the Central Alberta Economic Partnership.
