The 25 accredited colleges, universities, and technical schools in Alberta, including five Colleges located in Central Alberta, support the pool of educated labour force by providing the knowledge and skills that are in high demand in the workforce.

The regions private and public post secondary institutions have formed a number of innovative partnerships with communities and industry to develop customized programs, training and educational opportunities for markets in short supply of skilled labor.
Provincial funding to schools offering apprenticeship programs has increased over the past number of years as technical schools scramble to meet industry demand. Abundant private sector training is also available in the Central Alberta region.

Educational Consortiums
Community consortia provide educational opportunities for residents in areas where there are no nearby post-secondary institutions. Two community educational consortia operate in the central region.
Technical Institutes
Alberta has two technical institutes that offer programs tailored to workplace requirements, both have distance learning capabilities.
Distance learning is available through regional colleges, provincial universities and their affiliates.
