Alberta has a publicly administered and funded health system that provides universal access and full coverage for medically necessary physician and hospital services, and specific oral surgical services.  A universal health care system significantly lowers employer's costs to cover employees.

The David Thompson Health Region delivers health services and programs in the Central Alberta region through 42 hospitals, community health centres, and continuing care centres. There are over 350 practicing physicians in the region ensuring a full range of health care including acute and continuing care, and diagnostic services.

Located in centre of the region is the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury, a State of the Art Facility with National and International Recognition that treats and cares for people with psychiatric disorders and those who have suffered brain injury.

The government works closely with the regional and provincial health authorities to fund, monitor and improve services provided by health authorities. The following are two provincial health authorities which provide cancer and mental health services on a province-wide basis.
