Central Alberta Tourism Investment Opportunities: From the West Country to the Badlands
One of the fastest growing and most resilient sectors in the world, tourism is a key economic driver in Alberta. It’s an $8 billion industry that supports 19,000 businesses and employs more than 127,000 people across the province. Alberta’s “visitor economy” holds great promise as a core pillar of economic diversification now and in the future. Its importance to the province’s well-being is especially important during periods of volatility within other sectors. Alberta’s goal is to grow tourism revenue to $10 billion by 2020.
CAEP recognizes the role tourism plays in Central Alberta. Traversing a diverse landscape with the City of Red Deer nestled between the Canadian Rockies to the west, expansive farm lands, and the Canadian Badlands to the east, Central Alberta is quickly becoming ‘Tourism Central’.
That’s why we partnered with Alberta Culture and Tourism to conduct a high-level assessment of potential land based, commercial tourism investment opportunities in the central Alberta region. The purpose of this tourism investment opportunity assessment is to identify specific shovel ready tourism development opportunities to position central Alberta as a significant tourism destination area.
