Agriculture as an Economic Opportunity November 6

Agriculture as an Economic Opportunity training will: increase your understanding of the various opportunities that can be created and processes that can be used to support agriculture and related businesses through community economic development (CED); raise the level of awareness of the importance of agriculture in all of our municipalities’ economic futures; emphasize how economic developers can work with agriculture operators (farmers and ranchers) as business owners as well as agriculture processors and distributors to increase a region’s sustainability; introduce the concept of a business retention and expansion (BR&E) process that includes farm visits and agri-business interview; introduce the concept of assessing potential value-added opportunities; provide a structural snapshot of the emerging trends impacting Canadian businesses; review how different opportunities and challenges can be used to advance the agriculture industry; present the importance of connecting agri-businesses (farms, ranches, processing, distributing, etc.) with the resources available for running sustainable operations
